Here are some of the activities to be found in the LiliPad cottage area and in the general region known as the Outaouais (pronounced oo-ta-weh).

Recreation
Downhill Skiing
The Outaouais region is loaded with ski resorts and there are several resorts in the local area within 20-30 minutes ride:

Horseback Riding
Captiva Farms located 25 km from the cottage offers 40 km of trails and is open for all 4 seasons. They have horses for all levels of experienced rider. For more details check out their web site Captiva Farms
Lafleche Caves
The Laflèche Caves, the largest natural caves of the Canadian Shield. Located only 14 km from the cottage the Laflèche Caves offer a unique opportunity to better understand the geological history and evolution of our continent. It also has a history of its own dating back to its discovery in 1865. Their tour guides will take you through man-made and natural galleries while they explain the formation of the caves.
Video Rental
Pick up a movie and snacks at Marche Richelieu in the village of Perkins. They have a good selection of new and older releases in both English and French for under $5.00. Make sure to return them by 6:00 PM the following day!

Air Eau Bois (3 seasons)
Camp Air-Eau-Bois is a French camp, located on the shores of the magnificent Poisson Blanc reservoir, 60 minutes north of Gatineau-Ottawa, 45 mins from the cottage. Canoe camping trips are their specialty but they offer other activities, including natural rock climbing, speleology, archery and much more. Their programs are designed for campers ages 6 to 17 and each camper will have an opportunity to spend at least one night in a tent on the lake shore. Older campers can experience lake shore camping for up to 24 nights! They offer sessions of 3, 6, 12, 16, 25 and 26 days and also offer outdoor school trips during the spring, summer and autumn seasons. Accredited by Quebec Camping Association

Perkins
The village of Perkins provides essential shopping demands for food, gas, propane, videos sports gear and hardware. There is one family restaurant just south of the village with plain hearty fare. Be sure to try Quebec "poutine" (french-fries served with cheese curds and gravy) with your burger.
Val-Des-Monts
Try the Bistro, Val Du Lac, for their excellent specialty dishes. Just 16Km from LiliPad, call (819) 457-2791 for reservations.
Further Afield
For more grocery shopping selection try the new IGA just off the Highway 50 at exit Mont Paiement.
If you are willing to travel further afield there are an abundance of nice spots in Ottawa (30 mins.) and Gatineau (25 mins). Of special mention is Wakefield (25 mins.) that has great restaurants, a mouth-watering bakery, convenience stores and several unique arts & crafts shops showcasing local artisans. The tourism web sites can provide lots of information by area and preference.
The Ottawa region with a population of 1.2 million provides all expected types of shopping as well as items specific to the capital of Canada. Ottawa hosts numerous fun events such as the Tulip Festival, Jazz Festival, Blues Festival or Winterlude. See the culture of Ottawa by visiting the National Gallery, Canadian Museum Of Civilization, Natural History or other museums and, of course, the Parliament buildings, all within easy walking distance.
